Spring has sprung, and there is no better way to start off the season than with a good detox to help reset your body and skin from the inside out. Performing a dietary detox is an incredible way to help cleanse the body of toxins and sluggish waste that tend to keep our body and skin from operating efficiently. These kinds of cleanses are an incredible way to maintaining your health and wellness, and are a great addition to your at home beauty routine. They are also fantastic to pair with several of American Medical Aesthetics’ Specialized Treatments, as they have the ability to inspire and speed up the healing and cleansing processes of the lymph and circulatory systems. You will see better results even faster when you take the time to utilize a cleanse before, during and after you experience either one of AMA’s Laser or Oxygen Therapy Treatments. Your body and skin will be glowing from the inside out!

As with all methods of detoxification, there are times when a detox might not be appropriate for you, so be sure to consult your physician if you are experiencing any chronic conditions or health issues. Results do vary person to person, but often yield a magnificent result when followed carefully.

First off, when embarking on a detox regimen it is important to eliminate certain foods from your diet that are stimulants or “detox distractors” that can often keep your body from cleaning itself out and excreting the toxins that need to be removed from the body.

Here are the 8 most important things to eliminate from you diet for at least 1 to 2 weeks to really jump start your body:

1. Excessive fats – Especially trans fats.

2. Any form of sugar – Including honey and maple syrup.

3. Artificial sweeteners

4. Refined carbohydrates – Such as white rice and products made from white flower.

5. Gluten – Often found in breads, cereal, chips, pasta, tortillas, pancakes and crackers.

6. Alcohol

7. Caffeine – Sorry no coffee or caffeinated teas!

8. Drugs - Any unnecessary over-the-counter drugs.

It you are having a hard time eliminating all of these foods at once, take it step by step. As long as you get to a place where you are not consuming any of these items for at least 1 to 2 weeks.

Now that we have gone over a few of the items that are important to remove from your diet, here are a few things that you should add to your diet to experience a proper cleanse and detox of the body and skin:

1. Green leafy veggies and herbs – Kale, watercress, chard, cilantro, escarole, parsley, dandelion greens and mustard greens.

2. Citrus – Oranges, lemons and limes (avoid grapefruit as it contains a compound that can interfere with the cleansing of the liver).

3. Sulfur-rich foods – Garlic, onions, daikon radish, and eggs.

4. Liver healers – Cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, broccoli, artichoke, asparagus, beets, celery, and dandelion root tea.

5. Colon healers – Milled or ground flaxseeds, carrots, apple, pear, and berries.

6. Water – Each day drink half your body weight in ounces of filtered or purified water.

7. Oils – Each day ingest 1 – 2 tablespoons of olive oil or flaxseed oil.

8. Protein – Each day eat at least 2 servings of lean protein in the form of chicken, turkey or fish. If vegetarian be sure to get at least 2 tablespoons of blue-green algae or spirulina.

9. Probiotics – Promote “friendly bacteria” for optimal digestion and support of your immune system. Each day consume at least a 1/2 cup of plain yogurt or Kefir with “live, active cultures”. If you are lactose intolerant you can purchase acidophilus pills (found in natural food stores) that work wonders in promoting the natural microflora within your stomach and digestive tract.

10. Homeopathic supplements and medicine - PRM or Physiological Regulating Medicine works wonders to aid the body in detoxification and healing:

PRM has a very long and venerated history rooted in 300 years of exacting clinical observations in the medical science of Homeopathy and Homotoxicology. During the past 30 years, under the auspices of the European Congress of Physiological Regulating Medicine, GUNA Inc, (an Italian research and homeopathic pharmaceutical company) and combined with many high level scientific studies conducted by some of the best universities in Europe, an advanced scientific dimension has been added to classical homeopathy that includes all aspects of western medicine, advanced physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and cellular biology.

PRM methodology combines three fundamental aspects:

1. Reprogramming of the three regulatory systems of human physiology; Neurology, Endocrinology, and Immunology.

2. Relief of any organ related symptoms.

3. Detoxification or “drainage” of extra cellular tissues.

PRM formulations work at homeopathic dilutions, which means tiny doses that mirror the actual concentrations found naturally in our bodies. Thus PRM formulations not only use naturopathic ingredients at natural concentrations, they also cause no side effects as they work to improve the overall health and function of your body at the cellular level.

Schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our doctors to see how PRM can help you and your body heal and detoxify itself naturally. Your body and skin will be sure to thank you!
